Welcome to the 2016-2016 Academic Year!

112701-Welcome-Back-To-School

We are very pleased to see everyone back in school this week after a fantastic summer. The children have come back ready to learn and have been working hard all week. This is fantastic to see and all of the staff are excited for the new year.

The Principal’s Awesome Award is continuing and the first ones have already been given out for the work done by these children.

Max

Max came back to Nursery being able to write his name independently!

Aditya Sophie

Aditya and Sophie are just starting Year 1 and have been wowing their teachers with their abilities. Aditya’s handwriting is looking more like a Year 3 child’s handwriting rather than Year 1 and Sophie, though a little afraid at first, wrote a wonderful piece of independent writing which included correct punctuation, capital letters and spelling!

It has been a great start to the year and we look forward to seeing even more awesome work!

Year 4 Residential to Hartington Hall

Y4Res1

Year 4 children took their first school residential from 27th-29th April. They stayed at Hartington Hall and had many exciting adventures including becoming Tudors for the day, hiking in the woods and fields and exploring Hartington Village. They were able to try out skills they had already learned and learn new skills along the way. It was wonderful to see the growing independence the children showed. Our video is just a small taste of the adventures had!

Here is a video of just a few of the pictures!

Thanks go to all of the staff that helped to make the residential happen!

A Successful #PositivePostItDay

DSC08963

It has been an amazing day filled with lots of positivity! Everyone embraced the challenge in the usual Green Lane way and had no problem complimenting each other and finding positives about themselves.

It was exciting to see the smiles all through the academy and the true sense of happiness flowing out of every class.

Thank you to everyone for making this an amazingly positive day!

Watch our video to share what our day was like.

Happy Easter!

This half-term has been a very busy one with lots of amazing learning happening and extra activities happening.

This week has been dedicated to celebrating Easter.

The Easter Egg Decoration Competition was a great success with more than 100 eggs entered. Here is a video of all the eggs.

Here are the winners from EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

On Thursday, we held the annual Easter Bonnet Parade. It was standing room only and the bonnets were beautiful!

After school on Thursday, Friends of Green Lane (FOGL), held an Easter Egg Hunt and Mini Easter Fair!

Happy Easter!

#PositivePostItDay

PPID
Have you heard of Positive Post It Day? Maybe you have and maybe you haven’t. That is ok.
A few years ago, a young lady in Canada called Caitlin Haacke, decided to take a stand against bullying. She tells her story On Tedx here:

She single handily has started a movement of positivity that is sweeping the world. Her belief that positivity begets positivity that began as an anti-bullying campaign, has led to children and adults alike considering their words carefully and filling the world with kindness, love and appreciation.
The impact of this young lady’s simple idea can be seen in this news report,

and this compilation video of the positive post it notes written in one day,

We have been left in awe by the inspiring, clearly mindful activity of gratitude, that has begun.  These little Random Acts of Kindness can spark a change and belief in the compassion of humankind.
In schools, this is a perfect circle time, PHSCE lesson or Mindfulness activity. In work places, it is a mindful activity that encourages good mental health and well being.
Thus, we are supporting Caitlin in her a Positive Post Its and have joined with other schools and work places around the world to declare  Tuesday 29th March 2016 as #PositivePostItDay .
How can you participate?
1- Share this post with others and tweet, Face Book, Instagram, Snap Chat, etc letting others know about the day. Get it out there! Let us know you are joining us on twitter (@Green_Lane_PA or in the comments section attached to this post).
2- On the day, no matter where you are (schools, work, businesses, home, online, etc), create and share Positive Post It Notes (Be sure to watch the videos if you want some ideas.). Stick the notes on the walls, windows, books, online social media feeds, ANYWHERE!
3- If you share them online, make sure you tag them as #PositivePostItDay.
Let’s paper the world in positivity one post it note at a time!
Time to stock up on Post It notes!
